Overall, I am happy with my Genius Hour project. I did not learn as much as I wanted to, but I have a few goals in mind for the future...Right now, life is pretty crazy between school, work, homework, placement...
So.. I have made it my goal that once I finish teachers college, I will take the time to become more focused on developing my ASL skills. I would like to look into some good books or even workshops that I could use to learn. This project was very enjoyable for me, and I look forward to continuing my learning.

Well, life got in the way again, so I was unable to post last week. However, despite the fact that I did not take the time to blog.. I still took the time to practice my ASL skills. This week, I talked to my friend (the one who is also learning ASL) about her learning journey, and she sent me a picture of a book she was using to learn. I think I will stop by a local bookstore to see if they have any in stock.. or any other books that will help me. As much as I like the apps, I think a book would be a little more organized/scaffolded for me.

This week I focused on learning any terms or phrases that popped into my head. For this, I have been using my ProDeaf app quite a bit. I like this app because I can type any word or phrase I want, rather than relying on the predetermined words/phrases that are common on the other apps.

This weekend when I was out with some of my lifelong girlfriends, I got talking about my Genius Hour project and began to share my experience with teaching myself ASL. To my surprise, one of my friends was also teaching herself, and she recommended a book that I should try. I was telling her about my troubles I have had with scaffolding my own learning. Once I felt as though I had mastered the alphabet and numbers 0-9, I wasn't sure where to go next. My friend said that the book she recommended to me would assist with building my knowledge. I look forward to sharing my experiences with my friend, and I hope we can practice with one another every once and a while!

I am a little unhappy with myself this week, as I went over a week without practicing my ASL skills. Of course, due to my lack of repetition, I found myself forgetting many of the terms/letters/numbers I have taught myself so far. However, with some review, I believe I am back to the level I was at back on February 3rd. I am going to make it my goal to try and practice for a few minutes everyday to avoid forgetting what I have learned. Within the next week or so I will post another update - perhaps I will try to include some videos of me signing.

This week I have been working hard to memorize both the letters of the alphabet and numbers 1-9 in ASL. I am happy to say that I think I have a pretty good handle on it, but I often struggle with the letter "Q". I will continue to practice the basics as I move on to more difficult terms.

This week I focused on learning a few basic terms in ASL. I started by downloading the following apps from the Google Play Store:

| This app is very cool - you can type in any sentence and the avatar (left) will show you how to sign what you typed. |
This past week I learned the following in ASL:
- How to spell my name
- How to say "Hello, how are you?"
- How to say "What is your name?"
- How to say "Nice to meet you."
- The words "teacher", "teach", and "class"
